What causes earthquakes?

This question has been answered on the explanations page of this website but will be repeated for the convenience of the reader. Earthquakes are caused by imbalances between upthrust and down thrust forces acting on crustal plates. Down thrust forces are the weights of crustal plates on the mantle and are constant. Upthrust forces are the pressures arising from expanding lava and gases due to increasing heat. Upthrust forces vary from time to time and region to another and are primarily responsible for earthquake occurrence because they cause the imbalances.

Can Earthquakes be Mitigated?

The answer is Yes. The possibility of mitigating earthquakes has never been considered before because their cause has never been clearly understood. With the understanding that it is pressures generated and accumulated inside the planet that cause the imbalances, the solution then lies in finding ways and means of regulating these pressures. Of course this is a challenging task considering the kind of heat inside the planet. But this is the only logical and credible thing to do without which we continue to face the dangers of earthquakes. This is one of the reasons why a new science – Geoclimatology is proposed.
